Halal Radar
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
1. Overview
Halal Radar ("we", "us", "our") helps you check whether a product's ingredients are halal, haram or doubtful by scanning a barcode or a photo of the ingredients list. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information we collect
- Camera and photos. When you scan a barcode or photograph an ingredients list, the image is processed on your device. Photo-based ingredient scanning uses on-device OCR and the picture is not uploaded to our servers.
- Barcode scans. A scanned barcode is sent to public product databases (such as Open Food Facts) to look up product information. We do not store a profile of what you scan.
- Product contributions. If you add a product, the information you submit is contributed to the public Open Food Facts database under their terms.
- Subscription data. If you upgrade to Premium, your purchase is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but never your payment card details.
- Device and usage data. We may collect anonymous, aggregated analytics (such as crash reports and feature usage) to improve the app. This data is not used to identify you.
3. On-device processing & offline use
Ingredient-photo scanning runs entirely on your device. Products you have already scanned are cached on your device so you can review them without an internet connection. None of this on-device data leaves your phone unless you choose to contribute a product.
4. How we use information
We use the information described above to provide verdicts, match products, operate Premium features, maintain and improve the app, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data.
5. Third-party services
We rely on Open Food Facts for product data and on the Apple App Store and Google Play for billing. Their respective privacy policies govern how they handle your data. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.
6. Data retention
We keep aggregated analytics only as long as necessary to operate and improve the service. On-device scan history and caches remain on your device until you delete them within the app.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. If your account is managed through a store provider, you may also manage it there.
8. Children
Halal Radar is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or this page, and the "Last updated" date will be revised.
